About Yarelis Serrano

Yarelis Serrano is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, who graduated from the University of Florida’s Counselor Education program with her M. Ed/Ed.S degree. She has extensive experience working in suicide prevention and intervention, and crisis intervention that includes the Alachua County Crisis Center, UF Health Psychiatric Hospital, and a Crisis Intervention Consultant. Yarelis has clinical experience working with patients from childhood to adulthood, and across different settings, including community mental health, residential treatment, and outpatient treatment. Yarelis also has experience working with couples and families, as well as psychotherapy groups. She has been trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Prolonged Exposure Therapy. She is currently a mental health counselor at the University of Florida’s Pediatric Department. Yarelis Serrano was born in Cuba and is fluent in Spanish. She enjoys serving diverse populations and integrates individuals’ cultural and ethnic backgrounds into her therapeutic services. Yarelis works from a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy perspective, integrating person-centered theoretical orientations into her approach. She enjoys working with a variety of patient concerns, including depressive disorders, culture-related issues, women’s issues, sexual and gender orientation issues, trauma-related issues, crisis intervention, suicidal ideations, relationship concerns, and family-related issues.
